Womens Health and Cancer Rights Act Information Sheet
WHCRA guarantees a number of rights to women who have breast cancer surgery and
are covered by a health insurance plan. This includes the right to reconstructive
surgery and to additional treatment if necessary. The law also prohibits certain
conduct by healthcare providers.
Under this important law, it is the employer’s obligation to advise affected
employees of their rights under WHCRA. Failure to inform their employees, employers
may put themselves at risk for potential employee disputes and or lawsuits.
