California ( CA ) Labor Law Quick Facts:
The California state minimum wage is $8.00 per hour. Tipped workers and minors must also be paid $8.00 per hour under state law. Overtime (at time-and-one-half) is required after 8 hours per day, after 40 hours per week, or on the seventh consecutive workday. Employees are entitled to double pay after 12 hours per day, or after 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day of work. California law provides more benefits to workers than most states, including short-term disability payments, and six weeks of paid family leave. A 2007 law reformed the California’s workers’ comp program, reducing costs to employers and providing better care for injured workers.*
