Labor Law Quick Facts:
Alabama has some of the most restrictive Child Labor
Laws in the nation, severely curtailing the hours a
minor can work and requiring work permits for everyone
under 18. It is one of only 5 states in the union that
has no state minimum wage or overtime law. Most workers
in the state are covered under the federal minimum wage,
currently $5.85 per hour with overtime after 40 hours.
Many Alabama employees are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid
job-protected leave under the federal FMLA.*
