Labor Law Quick Facts:
The Virginia minimum wage is $5.85 per hour. Virginia
is the only state that sets no limit on the amount of
tip credit a small employer can take. Most employees
are entitled to overtime after 40 hours under federal,
not state, law. The Virginia Occupational Safety and
Health Compliance Program oversees worker safety for
both public and private employers. The Virginia Human
Rights Council enforces the state law prohibiting discrimination
based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex,
pregnancy, martial status and disability.*
