Labor Law Quick Facts:
The Texas minimum wage is $5.85 per hour, or $2.13
per hour for tipped employees. Overtime after 40 hours
is required by federal, not state, law. Most employees
qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected
family leave under the federal FMLA. Under the Texas
Child Labor laws, 14- and 15-year olds may not work
more than 8 hours per day or more than 48 hours per
week. They may not work between 10 pm and 6 am on a
school night, without parental permission.*
